Celebrating 10 Years of 'Lucid': Pedro Flynn's Short Film Now Available Online
Pedro Flynn is a Portuguese multidisciplinary artist whose creative journey spans filmmaking, music, and perfumery. Today marks a significant milestone in that journey: the 10th anniversary of his debut sci-fi drama short film, Lucid.
To celebrate a decade since its original cinematic premiere, Lucid is officially being released online to the public. The short film will be available to stream starting tonight, April 16, at 20:30, directly on Pedro Flynn’s official website and YouTube channel.
The Story Behind "Lucid"
Lucid is a complex exploration of time, and the human subconscious. The plot follows two friends who discover a way to induce shared lucid dreams using a specialized computer system and audio cues. However, the boundaries of reality blur when they realize this system allows them to alter their own history by traveling back in time. At the emotional core of the film is the tragic story of their friend, Lucy, whose fatal addiction to the lucid dreaming system sets the narrative in motion.

Remarkably, Pedro Flynn began developing Lucid when he was just 14 years old, eventually releasing the film at age 16. Navigating a sci-fi thriller about time travel and altered states of consciousness is ambitious for any director, let alone a teenager.
"The biggest challenge was writing the script," Flynn recalls. "Since it's such a delicate and complex story involving time, dreams, and these mechanics of time travel, it became a huge challenge. Only after hundreds of hours of writing with my good friend Jorge Vieira, we finally arrived at a finished draft."
Production brought its own set of relentless hurdles. Shot across multiple locations with zero budget and limited equipment, the project required immense dedication. Looking back a decade later, the artist views that sheer teenage willpower as his proudest achievement.
"Recording was a massive challenge," Flynn explains. "But I knew it had to be done. I didn't ask any questions, always head down, always focused to finish everything and get it into the cinema for people to see it on the big screen."
A Multidisciplinary Evolution: The Next Chapter
Today, at 26 years old, Pedro Flynn’s artistic vision has expanded far beyond the director's chair. His current practice is highly multidisciplinary, integrating audio, visual, and sensory experiences. Yet, the relentless drive that birthed Lucid remains the bedrock of his career.
"Making Lucid was really the foundation of my art," he reflects. "Knowing that I made such a huge effort at 16 gives me all the strength I need to complete my next big public projects."
Those upcoming projects are vast in scope, continuing Flynn's exploration of the mind and the cosmos. Fans can anticipate the release of a debut music album titled The House of Your Mind, alongside a signature conceptual perfume, Arbor Sacra by Pedro Flynn. Later down the line, his roadmap includes a book and a return to the director's chair for a potential full-length feature film.
Both the album and the fragrance are intrinsically linked, serving as reflections on fundamental consciousness and pure awareness. Arbor Sacra translates a rich conceptual lore into scent—inspired by a solitary, sacred tree in a vast desert where pilgrims gather annually to harvest its healing resin. Meanwhile, The House of Your Mind translates these themes into sound, exploring the architecture of the mind space and the realization that pure awareness is, at its core, love itself.
A decade ago, Pedro Flynn asked audiences to step into a dream. Today, as Lucid finally makes its way to global screens, he invites us to step into a vastly expanding artistic universe.
